Deeper than my know.
In 1961, at the dawn of her career, Teresa Pągowska was inscribed by Peter Selz into the informal canon of Polish postwar art, through her presence at the famous “Fifteen Polish Painters” exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Sixty years after the New York exhibition, the artist was remembered by the Starak Family Foundation, organizing a show of her work from 1960 to works from the last period of her life at the Spectra Art Space Gallery. The invitation to move the Warsaw exhibition of the outstanding artist to the State Art Gallery in Sopot, as one of the first under the management of Eulalia Domanowska, is a symbolic return to the tradition of the local artistic community, while at the same time emphasizing and appreciating the role of Teresa Pągowska in the history of Polish art.
“What occupies me most deeply is the human figure. Not only because of the richness of the form. I think it is the human being that contains the most content magic.” Teresa Pągowska
