Art in public spaces, also known as street art, is an artistic discipline that is becoming increasingly popular around the world. Using a variety of techniques, artists create works that engage the community, transform space and inspire reflection. One of the Polish representatives of this direction is interdisciplinary artist Marek Kotarba.
Art in public space has a powerful effect on society. Works of art presented in streets, squares, walls of buildings or even in natural spaces become part of everyday life and are accessible to everyone, regardless of age, social status or interests. What distinguishes this art form is that the works are embedded in an urban context, creating interaction with the environment and the viewers.
With his interdisciplinary works, Marek Kotarba brings a new perspective on art in public space. Kotarba experiments with various techniques such as painting, sculpture and installations, combining them into unique projects. One of these was an exhibition of kotarbanas at the Castle Square in Warsaw on the W-Z route, inspired by the works of Marek Grechuta.
Kotarba is also known for his project ‘Żoliborz w kwiatach’, which focuses on the theme of the coexistence between man and nature. These large multicoloured compositions make passers-by reflect and are the artist’s voice in the dialogue of creating a friendly city project.
The artist states:
I would like the flower-themed works I present to stop the hurrying people at least for a moment and trigger positive emotions among them.
